In August and September of 2017 I took on an art residency in Shangyuan Art Museum just about an hour South from Beijing, China. When I arrived it wasn't cultural shock which took my by surprise. It was everything. Circumstances, conditions, reality. Took me about three days to get my head back to the reason I'd set foot on that plane leaving Budapest. To photography.
But the place lacked the kind of architecture and street life I used ot capture, so I just walked for the first couple of weeks. And then I recognised all those lost, straying neglects I could quite relate to at that point in my life. Memories came up, questions rose, acceptance replaced regrets. And with the help of them, I started to see the beauty in all that was lost on me.
